Groupe PSA, the French company behind Peugeot, Citroen and Vauxhall, has confirmed it will offer eight years of breakdown assistance to buyers of its electric vehicles. The extended cover will allow owners whose batteries run flat to receive a quick top-up charge at the roadside.
The company’s brands, which also include French premium brand DS, already offer three years of breakdown cover for conventionally powered petrol and diesel cars – cover that includes assistance for those who run out of fuel. For buyers of electric and plug-in hybrid cars, however, PSA will extend that cover for a further five years, in line with the eight-year battery warranty.
Richard Dyson, Groupe PSA Parts & Service Director UK, said: “We are pleased to extend the roadside cover on our new generation of electrified models to eight years or 100,000 miles. Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles represent the fastest growing vehicle segment in the UK. With more buyers looking to make the switch, we hope this initiative will give first-time electric car buyers the peace of mind they’re looking for.”
Citroën has unveiled an all-electric version of its mid-sized Dispatch panel van. It’s called the e-Dispatch – and it’ll go on sale in the UK during the second half of 2020, joining the Peugeot e-Expert and Vauxhall Vivaro-e in the PSA Group’s all-electric commercial vehicle line-up.
The Citroën e-Dispatch is based on the same EMP2 platform as normal Dispatch models, and it’s powered by the electric motor found in the Peugeot e-208 and Vauxhall e-Corsa superminis, which develops 134bhp and 260Nm of torque. Citroën says the electric powertrain allows the e-Dispatch to haul a maximum payload of 1,275kg, at a top speed of 80mph…
Peugeot has released the e-Expert – a pure-electric van with a range of up to 205 miles on a single charge.
The e-Expert completes the electrification of the PSA Group’s triumvirate of medium vans, following Citroën’s ë-Dispatch this week, and the Vauxhall Vivaro-e at the end of last month.
The e-Expert shares the same platform and Peugeot has decided to offer the same powertrain options. This means there’s a 50 kWh battery available for a range of up to 143 miles on a charge, or a 75 kWh pack providing the headline 205 mile range.

The Mach-E, Ford‘s first modern mainstream pure EV, is a large, high-performance SUV for which prices will start at around £42,000, in contrast to the new electric entry points from rivals such as Vauxhall, Peugeot and Honda, which are launching far more modest, and therefore cheaper, superminis.
While saying that the Mach-E’s size, performance and range capability mean its price still represents good value for money when compared with rivals, Hoare also insisted that this ambitious entry into the EV market is the right way for Ford to go.
He said: “We want to put the best foot forward for electrification, we want to demonstrate the great strengths of electrification, and make it aspirational, so the products that will come beneath it will start with credibility, and our customers will understand what is coming from Ford.
