The V3 chargers have a charging capacity of up to 250 kW, while the V2 Superchargers have a charging capacity of up to 150 kW. However, Tesla will not be replacing all V2 Superchargers with the more powerful V3 units any time soon, but they promise future improvements. There are currently 23 locations in the Netherlands where Tesla has its Superchargers, a total of 384 charging stations.
The peak power that the car battery receives is determined by factors such as the size and age of the battery and the ambient temperature. Under ideal circumstances, a Model 3 Long Range could theoretically rake in 120 kilometres of range in 5 minutes.
Tesla’s Superchargers are not available to owners of other electric vehicles.
Tesla reported a modest decline in new-car deliveries for the second quarter, as sales in China in other foreign markets helped the company weather the coronavirus pandemic in the United States.
The company said it delivered 90,650 cars in the quarter, down 5 percent from the 95,365 it sold in the same period in 2019. It sold 88,496 cars in the first quarter of 2020, when most of the company’s operations were largely unaffected by the virus.
Local officials forced Tesla to shut down its main car factory, in Fremont, Calif., in March. Two months later, the company restarted production earlier than it was authorized to do so after its chief executive, Elon Musk, criticized stay-at-home orders as “fascist.”

J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study, now in its 34th year, examines problems experienced by purchasers and lessees of new 2020 model-year vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership. According to J.D. Power, Initial Quality has proven to be an excellent predictor of long-term reliability, which has a significant impact on owner satisfaction and brand loyalty.
This is the first time a Detroit automaker topped the list in 34 years. The Dodge Durango and Dodge Challenger models both scored very high in their segments.
Kia tied Dodge and maintained its six-year streak as top-ranked auto brand.
Tesla, which outdid perennially bottom-ranked Land Rover, has traditionally refused to cooperate with outside researchers like J.D. Power. Perhaps we now understand more the reasons for this.
The J.D. Power IQS results vindicate the many reports from owners, journalists, and analysts concerning Tesla’s persistent production quality issues. J.D. Power is well respected in the industry.
That mindset doesn’t appear to have changed as the newest Model Y is experiencing many of the same difficulties and widespread defects that have afflicted earlier models.
Hype and being first to market has proven profitable for Elon Musk and shareholders, and they have built up a fan base. However, if Tesla does not improve quality, they will not be able to grow their base into paying customers at a time when other manufacturers with much better reputations for quality products are rapidly bring EVs to market.
Tesla is not about to go the way of Edsel any time soon. But just as there will always be a market of Land Rover, there will always be a fans of Tesla.
The Dodge brand, long a quality laggard, surged to take the top spot in the 2020 Power IQS, tying Kia, while toppling traditional benchmarks including Korea’s Genesis, Japan’s Lexus and Germany’s Porsche.
If anything, Porsche plunged to the lower quartile in the latest quality study, while Lexus and Genesis also slid sharply down the list. But no one fared more poorly than Tesla. Covered for the first time in the IQS, the California EV maker was, by far, posted an industry-worst score, underscoring recent reports of endemic quality issues impacting its line-up and, in particular, the new Model Y battery-SUV.
The 20 percent improvement in range over the previous variant comes after Tesla CEO Elon Musk publicly took issue over the 391 mile rating, claiming EPA officials left the door ajar and the key in the test vehicle overnight, both of which drained the battery a little. I would have thought a modern and sophisticated battery electric vehicle would have developed software and systems to combat these human errors. The EPA refuted Musk’s claim. Did the squeaky wheel just get the grease?
To squeak out the extra range, Tesla installed several upgrades in the latest version of the Model S Long Range. Tesla says the “standardization of Tesla’s in-house seat manufacturing” lead to a significant weight loss. The automaker also redesigned its aero-focused wheels and used different tires specifically engineered to reduce rolling resistance. An electric oil pump replaced a mechanical version, and the gearbox was tweaked in some way that helped contribute to the increased range.
Tesla engineers reworked the Model S’s regenerative braking system, too. A new drive feature called HOLD “blends the motor’s regenerative braking with physical brakes to bring our cars to a stop by easing off of the accelerator pedal.” This system works at a lower speed than previous iterations and can send more energy back to the battery pack.

We are doing reasonably well with S, X, and 3, but there are production and supply chain ramp challenges with Model Y, as is always the case for new products.

Tesla Inc. is proffering a decidedly different take on the coronavirus-related shutdowns CEO Elon Musk called “fascist” and sued over weeks ago by suggesting they may bolster the case for banning internal-combustion engine cars.
In its 2019 Impact Report released Monday, Tesla pointed to sharp improvements in air quality in recent months tied to restrictions on business and travel aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19. The company said the drop in pollution could embolden governments that already have been making plans to eventually ban vehicles that run on fossil fuels.
“It is not hard to imagine that many cities could become electric-only in the near future as they begin to witness the impact that ICE vehicles have on air quality,” Tesla said in the report.
