23 U.S. states sue White House administration over fuel efficiency rollback

Lawsuit seeks to restore emissions reductions needed to achieve economic, public health, and climate goals.

Last week, a trade group representing General Motors Co, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Toyota Motor Corp and others sided with the Trump administration on its plan and opposed a legal challenge to further weaken the requirements.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said the revised requirements “will increase costs to consumers and allow the emission of dangerous pollutants that directly threaten the health of our communities.”

New York City, Denver, San Francisco and Los Angeles are joining the challenge by California, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada and 17 other states.

Separately, 12 environmental groups including the Environmental Defense Fund, Sierra Club and Union of Concerned Scientists also sued over the rules…

Engie and FCA join forces to build world’s largest vehicle-to-grid (V2G) project in Italy

French utility Engie has joined forces with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to build the world’s largest vehicle-to-grid (V2G) project — using electric-vehicle (EV) batteries to provide up to 25MW of stored renewable energy to help balance the Italian electricity network.

The idea behind V2G is that EVs will be charged when renewable energy on the grid is plentiful and cheap, and some of that electricity will be sent back to the network when the supply of wind and solar power is low and the cost of energy is high.

Fiat has now released UK pricing where the electric 500e will start from £29,500 after the £3,000 plug-in car grant (PiCG) is applied. That’s for the first 500 high-spec ‘La Prima’ first-edition models, with less expensive models to follow. Buyers can expect deliveries in late 2020 or early 2021, according to Fiat.

Presented to the public the first time in Milan, Italy, the 2020 Fiat 500 “la Prima”, by Olivier Francois, President Fiat Brand Global.

The new Fiat 500 is said to have a 320 km / 200 mile range, when calculated on the European WLTP standards. However, Fiat is boasting an impressive 400 km range when driving is limited to the city.

Power for the third generation of an icon born comes from a 42-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. And it boasts an 85kw fast charger, said to provide 50 km of range with only 5 minutes of charging. Standard. Also included as standard with the purchase, will be a home charging station.

FCA will also offer the Fiat 500 with Level 2 autonomous driving, a first for a small city car.

FCA, is making the 2020 Fiat 500 a limited edition, “la Prima” will deliver only 500 units per country this year. Continuing with the Eco theme, the Fiat 500 will be offered in only 3 colours, Ocean Green, Celestial Blue, and Mineral Grey.

One more thing. Three top Italian luxury designers – Giorgio Armani, Bulgari, and Kartell – each modified a Fiat 500, which are to be auctioned. The proceeds going to Leonardo DiCaprio’s charity foundation dedicated to the long-term health and well being of all Earth’s inhabitants.

The new Fiat 500 will cost €37,900 in Italy. It will not be available in North America for 2020. Europeans will be able to purchase it from October 2020.
