“Ford’s perspective is in order to meet that demand, you’ve got to really come up with a compelling reason for the customers to buy—so exciting products, great capability, new functionality that you can’t quite get with a conventionally powered vehicle for us are all ways that we can help manage that transition to the end of the decade.”

And that’s why Ford doesn’t see the success of its EVs like Mach-E as being tethered to the price of gas, he said.

“We think…people are buying them because they’re great products first and maybe that cost of ownership on some products, like the commercial van, might be a little bit more of a consideration,” he said. “If you were only relying on cost of ownership as your main reason for purchase, this (very low gas prices) could be quite disruptive.”

BYD will supply EV batteries to Ford

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker BYD Co Ltd will supply EV batteries to U.S. automaker Ford Motor Co, a document on the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed on Monday.

Ford’s China venture with Changan Automobile is seeking government approval to build a plug-in hybrid model equipped with BYD’s batteries, according to the document.

Among the shared projects specified by VW are a midsize pickup to be developed by Ford; a city delivery van to be developed by VW; a larger commercial van to be developed by Ford, and a new electric vehicle for Ford of Europe, to be built on VW’s electric vehicle architecture.

Delivery of the new all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E will be delayed in Europe

AutoWeek (Dutch) is reporting the new all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E will now not arrive in the Netherlands before sometime in 2021. Delays are related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

I anticipate this to be true in other markets as well.
