Subaru and Toyota are joining forces to build a new electric SUV due in 2021.
We’ve known for a long time now that Toyota and Subaru are joining forces to build a new EV platform that will underpin midsize and large passenger cars, as well as a C-segment SUV similar in size to the Subaru Crosstrek. This isn’t the first time the two Japanese automakers have collaborated either, as the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 were jointly developed. Both cars are due to be replaced with next-generation models.
Subaru will apply the moniker to a coming battery-electric crossover it is developing with Toyota. The automaker previewed the concept version of the crossover in January of this year during a technical meeting in Japan, built atop a flexible platform to accommodate multiple production vehicles from both brands.
