The all-electric Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric P8 is on sale now, priced from £53,155 with first deliveries expected in early 2021. The crossover is the Swedish brand’s first EV, which has been tasked with taking on the likes of the Jaguar I-Pace, Hyundai Kona Electric and the forthcoming Tesla Model Y.
There’s a caveat for UK buyers, though. Changes made in the Government’s most recent budget mean that the XC40 Recharge won’t be eligible for the UK plug-in car grant. From Thursday 12 March 2020, the grant was only made available for electric vehicles which have a price-tag lower than £50,000 – and the payout was lowered by £500 to £3,000…
It’s based on a modified version of the combustion-engined Transporter’s platform, which is fitted with a 109bhp electric motor and a 37.3kWh battery pack mounted under the cargo bay floor. The motor sends drive to the front wheels via an updated version of the standard van’s dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Volkswagen has launched the ABT eTransporter 6.1 – the company’s first all-electric van available in the UK – which features a range of up to 82 miles on a single charge.
With no compromise on cargo area, the electric Transporter has been developed with ABT e-Line, and features an 83 kW (110 hp) motor. This enables a 0-62mph time of 17.4 seconds. Cargo space is rated at 6.7 m and the van is able to take a payload of up to 1,001 kg.
The Hyundai IONIQ has been named the most highly rated vehicle to own, in the Honest John Satisfaction Index 2020.
Overall, the IONIQ secured an average satisfaction rating of 93.7% from owners, making it a standout performer in the survey.
